Session description:
What happens when you, as a scientist, enter the public arena to communicate the science you stand for—and are met not only with appreciation, but also with skepticism, resistance, or even denial?
In this interview session, Marc Bonten will share his personal experiences from his public roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, you will explore how to navigate medical misinformation in public debates and (social) media, and reflect on the responsibilities and challenges of being a visible scientific voice in society.
Learning objectives:
- Critically reflect on the role of scientists in public debates and the ethical challenges involved in communicating science to diverse audiences.
- Identify strategies for effectively responding to medical misinformation in (social) media and public discourse.
- Develop personal insights into how trust in science is built, challenged, and maintained in times of societal crisis.
