Translating Innovation: A Collaborative Case Study 1
Tuesday July 7, 2026 15:00 - 16:30 CEST
Session Description:
This session invites participants to immerse themselves in a multi-day, unfolding case study rooted in the real-world complexities of translating an early scientific discovery into a potential therapeutic intervention. The case simulates the iterative process of decision-making under uncertainty, encouraging participants to explore what it takes to move a promising innovation forward within a multidisciplinary and stakeholder-rich environment. This experience is less about finding the “right” answer and more about learning to ask the right questions.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Explore the breadth of translational challenges involved in moving scientific discovery toward clinical and societal impact, especially in the context of paediatric oncology.
  2. Develop skills in cross-disciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and stakeholder engagement required to navigate real-world innovation pathways.
  3. Reflect on the role of ambiguity, iteration, and diverse perspectives in shaping the translational process—from early preclinical work through to clinical trial design and beyond.

Reflections on Translation: Lessons from the Case Study
Tuesday July 7, 2026 16:45 - 17:45 CEST
Session Description:
In this facilitated discussion, we revisit the case study experience through the eyes of participants and a panel of experts who have walked similar paths in real-world translational medicine. Together, we’ll reflect on the decisions made, the uncertainties faced, and the multidisciplinary perspectives required to move a promising innovation forward. This session is not about evaluating performance but about surfacing insights, challenging assumptions, and exploring the broader themes that emerged. Participants will have the chance to pose questions, share takeaways, and consider how this experience might shape their approach to future translational challenges.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Reflect critically on the translational case study experience, identifying key decision points, trade-offs, and moments of uncertainty.
  2. Engage in dialogue with experienced practitioners, drawing connections between the case and real-world examples of translational medicine.
  3. Synthesize themes across the case study, including ethical considerations, stakeholder alignment, evidence generation, and clinical applicability.
